Nice stuff I found on the net

Snooriz
Found a new buy/sell online market called Snooriz. Looks pretty decent and there seem to be insane amounts of ads. Hopefully they’ll make good out of it because I rellay liked the site.

2 Poker Sites
Two good poker sites which I believe are specialized in different areas. Chilipoker (jouez poker en ligne) with focus in France and Pokerloco (Poker) with focus in Brazil. Both are very good sites.

Rakeback site
Found a site for Rakeback, not sure how the pokerrooms accept rakeback at the moment but it is always good.

That’s all of the stuff for today, enjoy

My other blogs

Wanted to write something about the other blogs I own. A few of them are rather serious but some are even less serious then this one.

The end of the band

The end of the band is a comedy blog with some very intricate and elaborate jokes. My favorite post is the one about the amazed girlfriend.

 Bad Boy Poker

Bad boy is a general poker site with poker info and a poker school.

 Best Poker Table

Another site about playing poker online

Google change Pagerank algorithm

Google has recently made a PageRank Update. In the last export there were several sites from all over the SEO community that got lowered PR. My guess is that lots of sites outside the SEO community got a reduce as well but it is harder to get any data on this since the owners of those sites don’t know themselves or report it anywhere. The last couple of weeks there have been a few manual reductions of PR on sites where link sales has been going on. This as a step in Googles war on advertising but the lowered PR in the update seems unrelated to this.

The reasonable guess here is that Google has increased the amount of link juice needed to reach each level of PR and pages that were weaker in their PR got a lower value from that.

Just look at the title.

6 Hellcop

Anyone else who remembers this film?

 5 The usual suspects.

4 Tank Girl

The best comic goes film -film ever.

Martin Sheen in his only good role.

Keyword analysis

The first thing you have to do when you are starting your SEO is deciding which keywords you want. The things you shoudl consider are these 3:

1 Is there enough search volume for the term?

There has to be a large enough amount of searches for the keyword for it to be meaningful to optimize for. You can find out about search volumes in a few different ways. Worth to notice is that Google doesn’t supply any figures.

Tools: SEOBook, Digitalpoints, Googles adwords tool

2 Will the term convert enough?

Ranking your site to number one on poker if you sell real estate will get you a lot of traffic but it will not convert. Usually the closer to your specific product the search is the better it will convert.

3 Is the competition such that it is worth the investment.

It might be worth to go for birthday cakes instead of cakes even if the search volume is much bigger for cakes if the competition is much harder. ROI is the key here.

The Google Filters

There are a few filters that Google use to improve the search results. There is one called the 30+ and one called the 950+ both have gotten their names to adding just 30 or 950 to your position in the SERP. One day your site is on position 6 nicely on the first page of the SERP and the next day it’s gone to position 956. The SEO community has still not agreed that these filters actually exists but it’s my opinion that the do.

The Duplicate Content Filter.

One of the most aggressive filters that Google have is the duplicate content filter. The filter is primarily made to keep the same page from being indexed a lot of times. For example if you have the page www.domain.com/Page.html it might very well show up on domain.com/page.html as well and then end up in the duplicate content filter so that Google doesn’t show it. It will also work outside a singel domain. If you publish material that is already indexed by Google there is a high risk of you ending up in the duplicate content filter no matter who has the copyright.

The Value of links

Evaluating links is a big part of buying links. I’ve spent a lot of time buying links for a lot of sites in very competitive areas and when you have to buy a lot of links you want to make sure that the links you buy aren’t crap. I believe paying a fair price for a link is a smart way of getting inbound links but most players in the link market have very poor instruments for setting the price.

PageRank

The most common way of setting prices is by the PageRank. A Pagerank 3 link could cost about $10 a month, a PR4 $20 and a PR5 $40. Pagerank is the way amateurs set prices. Pagerank is not an important factor in how good the link is unless you are buying links to get higher pagerank. (Getting higher pagerank will not improve your search engine traffic much but can be good if you are looking to sell links).

IBL

Looking at the inbound links of a site is the correct way to go about it. It can be a bit to much work though, many sites I buy links from have more then 10.000 inbound links and checking all the sites can be a real pain. There are a few corners to cut here though.

You can look for specific sites linking to the site.

There are a few things to look for among the IBLs for the site. One is DMOZ.org a huge and trusted link directory. A site with links from Dmoz has better outbound links then a site that doesn’t. Other links to look for is links from .edu or .gov domains. These generally give a lot of trust to the site they are linking to.

OBL - Outbound links

You need to look at the outbound links of the site. If they have a lot of outbound links the link you buy will be worth less. If they link to bad neighbourhoods or outright spam then the link might be useless.

Language

If you want links to a specific language a site of the same language will be better. For example I mostly buy Swedish links to one of my many swedish sites and then I’m always looking for links from Swedish sites. I will have to pay a bit more for them since the swedish market is much smaller then the English but on the other hand the results will be much better.
